ARCHIVED: In DOS 6.0 and 6.2, what should I do if I've messed up my CONFIG.SYS file and can't boot?

In DOS 6.0 and 6.2, you can bypass your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files by pressing F5 immediately after seeing the "Starting MS-DOS" message on the screen.

You can also press F8, which will cause DOS 6 to ask, for each line in the CONFIG.SYS file, whether you want to run it. It will then ask you whether you want to run AUTOEXEC.BAT (the whole batch file in 6.0, but in 6.2 you can run one line at a time). This would allow you to boot with some, but not all, lines of your CONFIG.SYS file, and all, some, or none of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

Finally, DOS 6 allows you to create "multiple boot" configurations in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. See your manual for details.
