ARCHIVED: In Outlook, why am I receiving email saying that a message has been opened by the recipient?

In Outlook, you may receive notification that a message you sent has been read (a "read receipt"). If you do not want to be notified when a message you send has been received or read:
Outlook 2010
- From the menu, select .
- Click the tab.
- Under "Tracking", make sure and are not checked.
- Click .
Outlook 2007 and earlier
- From the menu, select .
- Under the tab, click .
- Click .
- Uncheck and , and then click to clear all the dialog boxes.
