DECnet is a proprietary networking technology developed by Digital Equipment Corporation primarily for OpenVMS. DECnet is analogous to AppleTalk and IPX. Implementations are also available for other operating systems. Cisco Systems has a good description of DECnet in its Internetworking Technology Overview at:

Note: Along with AppleTalk and IPX, DECnet has been retired from the Indiana University network.
