In Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows, how do I view and control cookies?

How you view and control your cookies depends upon your operating system as well as your browser. To view your cookies and control your browser's cookie settings using Internet Explorer in Windows, follow the appropriate directions below:
Viewing cookies
Internet Explorer 7
- From the
Toolsmenu, or theToolsdrop-down at the upper right, selectInternet Options.
- Under "Browsing History", click
Settings.
- Click
View ObjectsorView Files.
Internet Explorer 5.x-6.x
- From the
Toolsmenu, selectOptionsorInternet Options....
- From the
Generaltab, clickSettings....
- Select
View Files.... You can identify your cookie files by looking beneath the "Name" or "Internet Address" column for filenames that begin withCookie:.
Changing cookie settings
Internet Explorer 7
- From the
Toolsmenu, or theToolsdrop-down at the upper right, selectInternet Options.
- Click the
Privacytab.
- Click
Advanced.
- To override the automatic cookie settings, click the
Override automatic cookie handlingbox, and then make your selections from the radio buttons below.
- Click
OKto close each of the open dialog boxes.
Internet Explorer 6.0
- From the
Toolsmenu, selectInternet Options....
- Click the
Privacytab.
- You can click and slide the slider bar to one of six cookie
acceptance settings. For example, slide the bar all the way to the top
to block all cookies. You can also click
Sites...to control cookies for individual sites.
- When finished, click
OKto close any open options windows.
Internet Explorer 5.x
- From the
Toolsmenu, selectInternet Options....
- Choose the
Securitytab.
- Select the web content zone you want and click the
Custom Level...button. Scroll down the list to find the "Cookies" section.
- To customize settings for persistent cookies, beneath "Allow
cookies that are stored on your computer", select the desired
option. To customize settings for session cookies, beneath "Allow
per-session cookies (not stored)", select the desired option.
- In the
Security Settingswindow, clickOK. You will now be back in theInternet Optionswindow. ClickOK.
Deleting cookies
Internet Explorer 7
- From the
Toolsmenu, or theToolsdrop-down at the upper right, selectInternet Options.
- Under "Browsing History", click
Delete....
- Under "Cookies", click
Delete Cookies.
Internet Explorer 6.0
- From the
Toolsmenu, selectInternet Options....
- On the
Generaltab, clickDelete Cookies.
- You will see a dialog box saying "Delete all the cookies in the
Temporary Internet Files folder?". Click
OKto delete them.
- Click
OKto close theInternet Optionswindow.
Internet Explorer 5.x
- From the
Toolsmenu, selectInternet Options....
- In the section labeled "Temporary Internet Files", click
Settings.
- Click
View Files.
- From the
Viewmenu at the top of the window, selectDetails.
- Click the
Internet Addresscolumn header to arrange the list so that all the cookie files are together. The cookie files will have the word "cookie" in them. For example, the cookie kept when you visit the IUware web site will read: cookie:username@iuware.indiana.edu - Select the cookie files and delete them. For multiple files, you
may highlight them all at once and then either drag them to the
Recycle Bin, press theDelkey, or right-click the files and selectDelete.
