In IU Webmail, how can I view Japanese language characters?
IU Webmail may display JIS Japanese characters (also called ISO-2022-JP) incorrectly because these characters conflict with ASCII HTML characters. To view Japanese characters in Webmail:
- From the top menu, click
Options.
- Under "Message Options", click
Message Viewing.
- Check the box for
Show link for JIS encoding, and then clickSave Options.
- To return to your mail, click
Inbox.
When you read a message in Webmail, you will see a new link that
says JIS Encoding. When you click this link, Webmail will
convert the message to UTF-8, which does not conflict with ASCII HTML.
The link converts all of the common Japanese encodings, including
Shift-JIS and EUC-JP.
To view a UTF-8 message properly, you must configure your web browser to recognize UTF-8. For more, see In Windows, how can I view web pages in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, or other non-Roman alphabets, or that include foreign language characters?
