What is LDAP?

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is a set of protocols used for accessing online directory services. By using TCP/IP, LDAP allows clients on multiple platforms (i.e., Windows, Macintosh, Unix) to access centralized directory services.

Note: The UITS services in this document may not be available to users on the Fort Wayne campus. Many computing services at IPFW are administered locally by IPFW Information Technology Services (ITS).

At Indiana University, UITS currently does not provide an official LDAP service. However, a Microsoft LDAP implementation is in service to support IU's Exchange email systems via the Outlook email client.
