At IU, what research computing services are available?

The Research Technologies (RT) division of UITS offers a wide range of resources and services to students, faculty, and staff at Indiana University, including the following:

  • Access to IU's supercomputers, general purpose Unix systems, visualization systems, and data storage systems
  • Consulting services for high performance computing, bioinformatics computing, data storage, data visualization, telecollaboration, digital library technologies, digital conversion, and statistical and mathematical computing (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Matlab)
  • Support services for installing, maintaining, and using departmental Unix and Linux systems
  • Consulting for life science researchers funded through the Indiana Genomics Initiative
  • Up to 5TB of additional file storage space on the Massive Data Storage Service (MDSS) at IU, available upon request
  • A variety of research software (e.g., SAS, Matlab, SPSS, Linux)

Consulting services and computing cycles are offered to students, faculty, and staff as baseline services through university funding without any direct charge. However, some services (such as requests to maintain personal/departmental workstations and software for such workstations) may be on a charge-back basis. See the UITS charge-back services page for details.

Consulting services for an extended period of time (over 20 hours) require a signed agreement between the researcher and UITS. For more, see the UITS Extended Consulting page.

For further information on research computing services available at IU, see the UITS Research Technologies news page.

For more information about RT, see the UITS Research Technologies page.
