At IU, using Windows Mail in Windows Vista, how do I read my Cyrus or Exchange mail using IMAP?

Windows Mail is available in Windows Vista as the successor to Outlook Express. If you do not want to use Outlook or Outlook Web Access (OWA) to read your Exchange mail at Indiana University, you can use IMAP with Windows Mail. You can also use IMAP with Windows Mail to read your Cyrus mail.
- When you use Windows Mail for the first time, the Add Account
Wizard will start automatically. If it does not start when you open
Windows Mail, from the
Toolsmenu, selectAccounts....
- Click
Add, and then selectE-mail Account.... Then, clickNext. Account setup will begin.
- Follow the prompts to enter your name and email address, clicking
Nextafter each entry.If you are unsure of your exact IU email address, see At IU, what is my email address?
- From the "Incoming e-mail server type:" drop-down menu, select
IMAP.
- For "Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server:", enter the name
of your IMAP server:
- For Cyrus, enter
imap.iu.edu. - For Exchange, enter
imap.exchange.iu.edu.
- For Cyrus, enter

In the "Outgoing" or "SMTP" server field, type:
mail-relay.iu.edu - Check
Outgoing server requires authentication.
- Click
Nextto proceed to the mail login information.
- For "E-mail username:", enter your Network ID
username.
- In the "Password:" field, if you are the only one who uses your
computer, enter your passphrase. If you share your computer, do not
enter your passphrase, and uncheck
Remember password. ClickNext.
- Click
Next. CheckDo not download my e-mail and folders at this time. ClickFinish.
- Click the
Toolsmenu and selectAccounts....
- In the
Internet Accountsscreen, under the "Mail" section, highlight the account you just created.
- Click
Properties.
- Click the
IMAPtab. To avoid error messages when sending mail, uncheckStore special folders on IMAP server.
- Click the
Advancedtab, and under both the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" and "Incoming mail (IMAP)" sections, make sureThis server requires a secure connection (SSL)is checked. If you have problems sending email, next to "Outgoing server (SMTP):", change the port number from 25 to 465.
- Click
Apply, thenOK, and thenClose.
You will be prompted with a window that says "Would you like to
download folders from the mail server you added?". Click Yes and enter your IU username and password if prompted. Your email account should now be available within Windows Mail.
