On the TeraGrid, what is Single Sign-On?
Note: The information below assumes you have finished all the initial procedures for getting a TeraGrid allocation. If you have not completed all these steps, see How do I get started using the TeraGrid?
Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication method based on Grid Security Infrastructure (GSI), part of the Globus toolkit, that lets you log into every TeraGrid resource on which you have an account using only one password. This password is your TeraGrid User Portal password, which is mailed to you in your allocation information packet. It is also referred to as your TeraGrid-wide password.
After you authenticate using SSO, you will be recognized by all TeraGrid resources on which you have account without having to enter your login information for each resource.
The recommended way to use SSO is via the TeraGrid User Portal, but you can also use SSO via a desktop client or with an X.509 certificate. For instructions, see the SSO Quick Start in the TeraGrid User Support documentation.
