How do I deactivate Adobe software?

Indiana University students, faculty, staff, and faculty emeriti may install Adobe software downloaded from IUware on up to two personally-owned computers. To install it on a new computer, you will first have to deactivate the Adobe software on another computer.

Note: If you do not first deactivate the software before uninstalling it from one computer, the serial number will not work upon reinstalling the software.

To deactivate most individual Adobe programs, from the Help menu, select Deactivate. To deactivate an entire suite of programs (e.g., Creative Suite 4 Design Premium or Production Premium), open one of the major programs (e.g., Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop), and then from the Help menu, select Deactivate.

Note: The following programs have no method of deactivation:

  • Acrobat Pro 9.0 (Macintosh)
  • Photoshop Elements 6.0 (Macintosh)
  • Photoshop Elements 7.0 (Windows)
  • Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 (Windows, Macintosh)
  • Premiere Elements 7.0 (Windows)

If you have trouble deactivating your Adobe software, contact Adobe Support & Customer Service.
