At IU, what are the usage policies for dial-in services?

The central dial-in facilities operated by UITS at Indiana University are a shared, first-come, first-served resource for IU students, faculty, and staff. UITS cannot guarantee you access to the network from the shared dial-in facilities.

If you live in campus housing, you can use an Ethernet connection for direct network access. See In IUB or IUPUI campus housing, how do I get connected to the network?

Be considerate when using dial-in services. Log out of your account as soon as you're finished using it, and try to restrict non-academic use (such as reading news or personal email) to off-peak hours, when possible. Your cooperation will help ensure that those with important work to do, such as completing assignments, can connect to their accounts.

All university IT policies concerning ethical and legal use of software also apply to your use of dial-in services. Your use of a particular piece of software through the dial-in services should be consistent with the license agreement for that software.

UITS provides consulting services and information for you in configuring and using a wide variety of equipment, but all hardware and software used for dial-in at your end is ultimately your responsibility. UITS cannot be held responsible for failures due to improper setup or use of dial-in hardware or software.

For more information about university computer usage policies, see the various related university-wide information technology policies.
